Birmingham German Christmas Market ~ Dec 2010

I went to the Birmingham Christmas Market a few weeks ago, on a random trip to Brum, surprise from some friends 😀 I even got to see the new Harry Potter movie.  It was when we had our first snowfalls, oh I thought that was the end of it… (still snowy!) I love German bread, have done since I went to München (Munich) in 1997. So was looking forward to visiting the Christmas market.
München (Munich)
I actually left Britain the morning of the general election on May 1st and had no idea who had won. I had a great time even going to see one of my favourite punk bands from Munich called Condom. I visited the Englischer Garten, rode through it on a bike tour. Went to Lake Starnberg (Starnberger See) where Ludwig II of Bavaria was found dead. Had my first ever smoothie and visited a huge health food store in the local Food Market called Viktualienmarkt. Also enjoyed the Maibaumaufstellung (MayDay Festival with a spectacular Maypole)

As I was leaving München I went to the local Bäckerei (Bakery)  and bought loads of bread (that had been my daily ritual while staying in Pension Frank in the Schwabing District (Schellingstraße 24, 80799 München) great little hotel full of arty bohemians, it was also quite close to the Universität U3 – U Bahn (Untergrundbahn or Underground /Subway)

Eiskalter Spaß (Ice cold fun) kostliche genuss (delicious delicacies)Deutsches Brot und Zweibelbrot (German Bread and Onion Bread)
So when I went to the Birmingham Christmas Market, I walked past all the cakes (unusual for me!) Glühwein, bier and sausages and headed for the bread stall, much to the amusement of my friend, who was happily munching some Bratwurst

Hand warmer was amazing, kept my poor frozen hands warm until I got to the restaurant image
Here are some general snowy pics from wandering around Birmingham, it was rather pretty

Merry Christmas and have a lovely New Year  ~ Frohe Weihnachten und einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr
I’m travelling up to Edinburgh in Scotland for the New Year (Hogmanay), to see my sister and one of my favourite bands ~ Scars, they are playing the HMV Picture House in Edinburgh on 29th December. I’ve only waited 29 years for this gig, to say I’m ridiculously excited is a total understatement.
Now this is what I’m doing now… it’s snowed a lot more so it’s easier to stay home and be warm! (like this) Listening to Faunts on with my squeezebox on my sofa with my feet on the pouffe/footstool, munching shortbread and drinking Pimms. How does it get any better than that?
